TechTarget CEO Greg Strakosch Named to min magazine's "21 Most Intriguing People"

NEEDHAM, Mass. -- November 4, 2004 -- Information technology (IT) media company TechTarget announced today that CEO and co-founder Greg Strakosch was named one of minmagazine’s “21 Most Intriguing People” in its annual issue celebrating the year in publishing. Strakosch, who was selected in the “Entrepreneur” category, was praised for “revolutionizing technology markets in a way that leaves the big guys scrambling to catch up.”

minmagazine, an AccessIntelligence publication, is an annual glossy magazine whose primary audience is publishing executives in both business-to-business and business-to-consumer media.

The list of the “21 Most Intriguing People” was chosen by a team of min editors for their courage, drive, imagination, commitment, and strategy in the magazine industry. Other industry leaders among this year’s “21 Most Intriguing People” include US Weekly’s new editor-in-chief Janice Min, Conde Nast president Chuck Townsend, and Primedia president and CEO Kelly Conlin.

“[TechTarget succeeded] because we were the most targeted, had the most specific content and audience, and had high prices and a high ROI,” Strakosch said in his min profile. “Companies at the lower end of the spectrum with less targeted audiences, broader content and lower prices, also succeeded. It was the companies in the middle that got squeezed,” wrote min.

Strakosch and TechTarget co-founder President Don Hawk launched TechTarget in 1999. Since then, TechTarget has grown from six employees to more than 300 employees and now produces a network of 22 targeted Web sites, a conference division, and a magazine publishing division. In May, TechTarget expanded its media properties beyond North America with the launch of TechTarget China. In June, TechTarget received $70 million in venture capital funding, the second largest funding deal in the nation this year.

Prior to TechTarget, Strakosch was president of the Technology Division at United Communications Group (UCG), a leading provider of business-to-business information. At UCG, he grew the business 15-fold in six years through internal growth, new product development and acquisitions. Strakosch joined UCG in 1992 when the company acquired Reliability Ratings, an IT information service he founded in 1989. Before Reliability Ratings, Strakosch spent six years in senior sales and marketing positions at EMC Corporation, which he joined as the 29th employee.
