Mooney Sherman is a senior IEEE Computer Society member. She focuses on cloud computing and offers her experience in the developing body of knowledge and research for the Computer Society Cloud Computing Special Technical Committee (STC) for IEEE members and the public. The STC focuses on cloud activities across the IEEE Computer Society, involving both Computer Society members and non-members. The STC's work is complementary to the IEEE Cloud Computing Initiative (IEEE CCI), a three-year project to promote cloud efforts across IEEE. For details or to join the STC, visit computer.org/cc

She is an experienced, self-employed IT professional and educator, specializing in information technology, infrastructure security, privacy and compliance. Educated in London, New York and Canada, her experience with cloud computing predates the coining of the phrase. She holds several industry certifications including MISSM, BAIST, M.C.S.E. and is currently pursuing ITIL, Cloud Computing and CISSP certifications. She has also won numerous awards, including the Jason Lang Scholarship for Academic Excellence, the Premier's Award of Excellence, and the Alberta Education Recognition Award for Best Service.

Mooney is active within the IT community, holding offices in IEEE Northern Alberta Section, IEEE Canada, Computers/Communications/Solid-State Circuits Chapter and CIPS. She also gives back to the community through volunteer work with the Strathcona Senior Centre, teaching computer skills to seniors, conducting the IEEE Teacher in Service Program for pre-university students and volunteering at Math Kangaroo workshops. In addition, she holds offices in numerous community groups, including the IEEE Humanitarian Initiative of Canada, Canadian Citizen Federation, the Centennial Montessori Society, the Northern Light Toastmasters and the Riverbend Community League.
