Assistant Site Editor, TechTarget Security Media

TechTarget is seeking an Assistant Editor for its Security Media Group. This fast-paced, entry-level position for will focus on creating and updating content for SearchSecurity.com, the industry's leading Web site devoted to providing news, learning materials and expert advice to information security professionals, as well as its sister sites, SearchFinancialSecurity.com and SearchSecurity.co.UK. The Assistant Editor is responsible for developing and editing technical tip and advice-oriented articles, producing and overseeing special projects like Web-based learning initiatives, working with our stable of contributing industry experts, producing email newsletters and other related tasks as needed. Candidates will be required to develop knowledge of information security issues and technologies by continually interacting with the readership, speaking with experts in the field, reading information technology publications and attending conferences and vendor meetings. The Assistant Editor will also work closely with other Security Media Group editors to devise and launch new Web site features based on evolving reader interest and needs.
Essential job functions:
- Excellent knowledge of the Web, including how to find information and present it using HTML;
- Strong content editing and copy editing skills;
- An ability to manage multiple, complex editorial projects;
- Regular interaction with industry experts; and,
- Familiarity with new media, including webcasts, podcasts and online video.
Knowledge, sills and abilities required:
- 1-3 years experience writing and/or editing for the Web;
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications, English or related field;
- Excellent Internet and computer skills;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Understanding of business technology and information security concepts;
- Willingness to learn online production systems;
- Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) practices;
- Capable strategic thinker; and,
- A self-starter able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven publishing environment.
