Assistant Site Editor, TechTarget Windows Media

Needham, MA

TechTarget is seeking an Assistant Site Editor for the Windows Media Group. This is a multi-faceted, entry level job that involves maintaining and updating the content of SearchExchange.com and SearchSQLServer.com, two of five Web sites designed for Exchange and database administrators. The Assistant Site Editor is responsible for developing and editing e-newsletters, writing and editing original articles for publication, recruiting speakers for moderated webcasts or conferences, working with our stable of contributing industry experts and pitching in as needed on other editorial tasks. Candidates will be required to develop knowledge of Microsoft technologies and issues by continually speaking with experts in the field, reading information technology publications, and attending user group and vendor meetings. The Assistant Site Editor will also work closely with the Site Editor to devise and launch new site features based on an understanding of readers' interests and needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Excellent knowledge of how to use the Web to find information;
  • Writing (journalism training preferred);
  • Newsletter preparation and transmission;
  • Moderating webcasts and podcasts;
  • Regular interaction with industry experts in the field who support our effort;
  • Interaction with our members on an ongoing basis;
  • Reporting and editing; and,
  • Audio, video experience, a plus

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Minimum of two years' writing and/or editing background, preferably in newspaper or magazine journalism;
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or other relevant course of study;
  • Excellent Internet and PC skills;
  • Basic understanding of information technology concepts and a willingness and ability to learn more about computers and corporate computing;
  • Good organizational skills;
  • Strong strategic thinker;
  • Basic knowledge of search engine optimization strategies a plus; and,
  • Basic knowledge of HTML preferred
