News & Features Writer, TechTarget Enterprise Applications Media

TechTarget is seeking an experienced news and features writer to cover the business intelligence, analytics and data management technology markets. This position requires reporting and writing three to four pieces of content weekly (articles or other types of written content), producing multimedia content (podcast, video), learning and leveraging search engine optimization techniques, using social media and online community platforms and effectively collaborating with other writers and editors.

The writer will keep abreast of industry news and trends – and will develop and maintain close connections with IT professionals, experts and analysts through regular phone and in-person interviews. The writer will work closely with other writers and editors to cover the business intelligence, analytics and data management technology beat. Content may take the form of industry trend articles, breaking news, case studies, tutorials, articles for eBooks or other original material relevant to IT professionals.

Candidates should have experience: covering a beat; writing news, feature articles and other types of content; developing sources; and, working on a team of writers and editors. The ideal candidate has existing knowledge of the business intelligence, analytics and data management markets and is well versed in search engine optimization techniques. All candidates must have an aptitude for understanding technical concepts and writing for a technical audience. Several times each year, the writer will travel to appropriate trade shows and conferences across the US. The editor is also expected to attend regional user groups, site visits and other events.

Essential Job Functions:

• Covering an established beat and developing deep understanding of the priorities and challenges of business intelligence, analytics and data management IT professionals;
• Reporting, researching and writing content in a variety of forms, including news, features, tutorials and more;
• Developing and maintaining industry professionals as sources;
• Learning and leveraging search engine optimization techniques in all content produced;
• Collaborating closely with another writer and the entire editorial team;
• Maintaining and updating the site using content management systems, online reporting tools and other online production systems;
• Developing, producing and editing multimedia projects monthly or as assigned;
• Leveraging social media and online communities for research and reader interaction; and,
• Covering relevant trade shows and conferences across the US

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

• Minimum of five years' reporting experience, preferably covering the high-tech industry;
• Knowledge of the basic fundamentals and ethics of news writing and editing;
• An ability to develop and maintain industry contacts for sources and story development;
• Ability to produce clear, concise copy;
• Strong organizational skills; Ability to hit tight deadlines; and,
• An undergraduate or graduate degree in journalism or English.
