TechTarget is seeking an experienced news editor to cover the Oracle market. The news editor will keep abreast of the latest market developments through an established list of industry contacts. Each week he or she will write and edit roughly three original stories, blog about developments in the Oracle market and assemble e-newsletters. Additionally, twice a month he or she will be responsible for producing a Oracle-focused podcast. The site's news stories may take the form of breaking news, Q&A interviews, analyses, case studies, research-based articles or other original material relevant to Oracle professionals. The ideal candidate has experience editing copy and covering a technology beat, knowledge of the business applications and database market, and a familiarity with producing e-newsletters, podcasts, and blogs. Several times each year the editor will travel to appropriate trade shows and conferences to cover market developments.
Essential job functions:
- Covering an established beat;
- Reporting breaking news stories, news analysis pieces, features and executive Q&A interviews;
- Editing newsletters, which includes posting content to the Web;
- Assigning stories and editing other reporters' copy;
- Producing a bi-weekly podcast; and,
- Covering relevant trade shows and conferences
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Minimum of five years' news editing experience, preferably covering the high-tech industry;
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in journalism or English;
- Knowledge of the basic fundamentals and ethics of news writing and editing;
- Experience covering a beat;
- Experience supervising a writer or team of writers;
- An ability to develop industry and user contacts;
- Ability to produce clear, concise copy;
- Ability to hit tight deadlines;
- Familiarity with AP style; and,
- Experience with online production systems
