Site Editor, TechTarget Application Development Media

Needham, MA

TechTarget’s Application Development Media Group is seeking a site editor who will be responsible for maintaining a TechTarget Web site that provides compelling news, trends and technical advice on issues related to application development for the Microsoft .NET platform. The editor will responsible for delivering on an editorial mission that also includes coverage of Visual Basic, C# and issues related to managing .NET applications across the software lifecycle, including .NET performance management and security. Ideal candidates have three to five years experience overseeing editorial operations for a Web site, knowledge of the Visual basic and .NET industry, and a demonstrable success editing and understanding technical content.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Keeping close to the reader. The most important responsibility of any site editor is maintaining strong ties to the community that he/she serves so that the content of the site is of high value to the audience. The target audiences for this site include .NET, VB and C# developers as well as .NET architects and/or Managers, so the candidate must be able to understand both strategic and technical issues and challenges. Examples include: the .NET framework, ASP.NET and Web development, Office and Client Development, .NET architecture, Data Issues, Testing and Security, etc.;
  • Producing articles and contributing regularly to the site’s blog;
  • Recruiting speakers and developing content for live and online events such as seminars, webcasts, podcasts and other new media;
  • Managing all technical (non-news) content on the site;
  • Editing technical material;
  • Monitoring site health and performance metrics;
  • Developing editorial calendars and strategic plans;
  • Supervising one or more junior editors;
  • Supervising freelancers and contributing experts; and,
  • Attending relevant industry conferences

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Three to five years' online editing experience, including a familiarity with online; production processes, especially content management systems;
  • Demonstrated publishing knowledge, understanding of journalistic ethics;
  • Strong knowledge of the application development industry;
  • Strong writing and content editing skills;
  • Ability to manage resources;
  • Strong computer/Web skills,
  • Experience with interviewing;
  • Ability to juggle many tasks simultaneously;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Necessary management skills include the ability to delegate, coach and develop the skills of less-experienced staff;
  • Public speaking skills;
  • We are looking for people who display intellectual curiosity, innovation, high standards, adherence to deadlines, and the ability to work in a flexible, changing environment; and,
  • Willingness to travel to roughly two to three shows a year
