Site Editor, Technology Guide

Newton, MA

TechTarget's TechnologyGuide Group is looking for a Software Editor to take charge of software coverage across all TechnologyGuide sites and spearhead the group’s expansion into software and services, including such key areas as SMB/SOHO and mobile applications. This is a key position for the group that involves writing, managing internal and external editorial projects, coordinating extensive freelance activities, and working closely with the Test Center Director on review and evaluation projects.

This editor will work closely with the managing editor and editorial team to keep pace with evolving trends in both the consumer and business software areas, particularly those involving smartphones and tablet PCs. The editor will be responsible for coordinating reviews, executing projects, working with the SEO team to optimize content, and managing special projects that focus on software and services. The editor will also play a key role in the group’s expansion into such areas applications downloads, cloud-based computing, and mobile productivity.

Candidates must have a solid writing and editing background, as well as experience in consumer and business product reviews. They must also have excellent communication skills and be comfortable working with a variety of editors and contributors, strong organizational skills, a keen attention to detail and the ability to work independently. This is not an entry-level position. Some degree of travel is required and a familiarity with the industry and major players in the software area is necessary.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Able to handle a variety of writing and editing duties and collaborate with multiple editors in a fast paced environment;
  • Ability to manage a large and diverse group of freelance writers and contributors and coordinate multiple projects;
  • Required to write and/or edit multiple articles per week and manage multiple projects, from initial idea to execution;
  • Maintain and organize a steady stream of software news, reviews and evaluations across multiple sites;
  • Coordinate and manage a planned centralized area for software coverage and applications downloads;
  • Build and maintain contacts with key software companies and product managers;
  • Develop and product special reports, buyer’s guides and projects throughout the year;
  • Build an expertise and credibility in both consumer and business segments;
  • Some travel to key industry events and vendors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of two to three years work experience in reporting technology news, with a preference for hands-on product reviews and evaluations;
  • Familiarity with PC and mobile software industry and players;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of writers and editors;
  • Ability and experience managing groups of freelance writers and reviewers;
  • Strong personal organizational skills, able to prioritize workload and hit tight deadlines;
  • Strong MS Office (Word, Excel), PC and Internet research skills;
  • Experience with online content management systems and HTML a plus;
  • Experience with multimedia equipment and editing tools (video, audio) and social media platforms a plus; and,
  • A degree in journalism or English or equivalent work experience.
