Senior Systems Administrator

Needham, MA

TechTarget is seeking a Senior Linux/Unix Systems Administrator who will be responsible for the DNS, SMTP, SAN and overall Operating System infrastructures enterprise wide.  This position involves the installation, upgrade, optimization, and tactical planning of these technologies.

Essential Job Functions:

    • General administration of name servers, email services,  RedHat Enterprise Linux, and Solaris servers;
    • Monitoring and reporting of name server, email services, and operating system performance and capacity;
    • Evaluating and decision-making of business requirements and capacity planning of the name servers, email services, and operating systems;
    • Producing documentation of the overall systems, changes before and after implementation, and future capacity plans;
    • Maintaining/repairing the name servers, email services, and operating systems in concert with the appropriate vendors in order to provide 100% availability of service;
    • Recommend changes related to performance tuning and optimization of all systems and applications; and,
    • Creating and developing plans and projects for upgrades, patches, optimization and capacity planning of the name servers, email services, and operating systems.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • 5 – 7 years of production management and administration of Redhat Enterprise Linux, Solaris, name servers, and email services; expertise with BIND and Postfix, or Ecelerity beneficial;
  • Ability to work with Redhat to address bugs and issues relating to applications or the OS itself;
  • Ability to debug kernel, device driver, or hardware issues;
  • BASH/Perl scripting experience
  • VMWare configurations, installation and on-going maintenance;
  • Solid understanding of EMC Claiiron and Sun/STK SAN Arrays and associated software (powerpath, etc);
  • Experience a plus, but not required in the following:  Xen, CentOS, Cricket/Cacti/RRD-based tools, Nagios, some MySQL and/or Oracle;
  • Ability to read and diagnose error logs in various applications, such as:  Tomcat, Resin and Apache;
  • Ability to understand and communicate with a diverse population of customers;
  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Logical approach to work, self-reliance and ability to work independently;
  • Active interest in maintaining personal technical skills and knowledge;
  • Ability to investigate, identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently;
  • Ability to mentor junior staff.
