Former CRN Editor in Chief and Former New York Times Notable Author and Wall Street Journal Reporter Join Staff of TechTarget Magazines

Information Security and CIO Decisions Add New Writers and Editors to Enhance Reporting and Editorial Excellence

NEEDHAM, MA--August 8, 2005--Information-technology (IT) media company TechTarget announced prominent additions to the mastheads of Information Security magazine and CIO Decisions magazines. Kelley Damore, formerly editor in chief of CMP Media’s Computer Reseller News (CRN), and New York Times Notable Author and former Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Ybarra have joined the staff of TechTarget’s Information Security and CIO Decisions magazines, respectively. Damore joins as editor in chief of Information Security, directing the strategic vision and editorial content of the magazine. Ybarra was named senior features writer for CIO Decisions. These two award-winning journalists bring to TechTarget over 30 years’ combined experience in technology and business journalism.

Prior to joining TechTarget, Damore spent 10 years at CRN, where she held several high-level editorial positions, including editor in chief. In addition, Damore served as senior executive editor, news editor and senior editor/hardware editor. Before joining CRN, she was senior writer at IDG’s InfoWorld and a staff writer for Ziff Davis’ PC Week. Damore has twice been named a finalist for the prestigious Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award, and has received numerous American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) awards for editorial excellence. Damore graduated with an MPA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a B.S. from The College of the Holy Cross.

Ybarra brings more than 15 years’ experience in business and technology journalism to his new role as senior writer for CIO Decisions. Ybarra recently published Washington Gone Crazy, which was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and one of the Los Angeles Times “Best Books of 2004.” Ybarra worked for four years as a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, and prior to that, for Upside. Ybarra has freelanced for such publications as The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, The Atlantic, and The New Republic. He graduated with a B.A. from University of California, Los Angeles, and a M.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. In his new position, Ybarra will focus on the evolving role of technology in businesses as diverse as the National Football League and the frozen food industry.

CIO Decisions Adds Three New Members to its Masthead

In addition to the Ybarra appointment, CIO Decisions added three experienced journalists to its staff, including:

  • Features Editor Megan Santosus: Santosus brings over 16 years’ experience to her new position at CIO Decisions. Santosus most recently served as a senior editor at IDG’s CIO magazine, where she was responsible for feature stories and columns.
  • Senior Features Writer Steve Ulfelder: Ulfelder is an award-winning writer who has contributed hundreds of feature stories and columns to publications such as Computerworld, The Boston Globe, CIO and The Industry Standard. Ulfelder’s freelance articles have typically examined trends and technologies affecting CIOs and IT managers in mid-size to large businesses. Ulfelder worked for seven years at Computerworld, where he wrote and edited award-winning feature stories and opinion columns, launched the magazine’s popular Shark Tank gossip column and edited the Technology section.
  • Managing Editor/Production Lauren Horwitz: Horwitz comes to CIO Decisions from the Cutter Consortium, an IT-research consultancy, where she worked as an editor. Previously, she spent five years at The American Prospect, a national political magazine, where she worked in various roles, including managing editor of special supplements.
