The speed at which cyber crime evolves as criminals circumvent security is driving research and innovation in academia. The quality of deepfakes is improving, with artificial intelligence generating videos that are difficult to identify, even to the keenest eye, and multiple tools are required to spot a fake. In this issue, we look at the Netherlands Forensic Institute and its research into the analysis of blood flow patterns in the human face, which deepfakes can’t imitate.
