51% of European OT firms hit by legacy Windows cyberattacks

Legacy Windows systems remain embedded in Europe's industrial OT environments, creating severe cybersecurity risks. Compatibility issues, costs, and downtime delay modernization, while cyberattacks on these systems rise.

This research, based on 550 OT and ICS security professionals across six European countries, examines legacy system risks and responses. Key findings:

  • 51% of organizations faced cybersecurity incidents involving legacy Windows systems last year, up from 43% in 2025.
  • Malware, unauthorized access, and ransomware are top threats.
  • 55% say protecting legacy systems costs less than replacing them.
