What's new for VMware desktop virtualization

As VMworld 2013 came to a close, desktop virtualization administrators might have been feeling left out. VMware didn't announce much in the way of end-user computing, but there are still some important new technologies from the show that have implications for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

In this video recap of VMware desktop virtualization news from the show, independent industry experts and bloggers Brian Madden and Gabe Knuth discuss Virtual SAN, the future of Teradici's Arch offering and the ability to manage Citrix XenApp through View. Plus, get to know some of the new desktop products from vendors on the show floor.

The guys also explain VMware's Desktop as a Service (DaaS) offering, which is based on Desktone. Today, you can "rent a desktop from VMware, because VMware will be a DaaS provider," Knuth said. Down the road, DaaS for Horizon View will integrate with the vCloud Hybrid Service.
