Changing the hostname in a server migration

I am trying to do server migration from an existing server to a new server (though it is same OS). We will need to change the hostname for this. What is the best method or process for this task? Is there anywhere else it stores hostname info apart from config files?

SAP stores the hostname in the default, start and instance profiles. The <sid>adm and <ora>sid (for Oracle on Unix) also have environment configuration files which set environment values. These contain the operating system and must be renamed as well.

For Oracle, don't forget to modify the SQL net configuration files (tnsnames.ora and listener.ora).

Within, SAP, do not forget to reload the profiles (RZ10), set the operation modes and instances (RZ04 and RZ03), and reconfigure the transport domain (STMS).

For more information have a look at the homogeneous and heterogeneous system copy guide. It is available for download at http://service.sap.com/instguides
