Microsoft Operations Management Suite

The Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS), previously known as Azure Operational Insights, is a software as a service platform that allows an administrator to manage on-premises and cloud IT assets from one console. Microsoft OMS handles log analytics, IT automationbackup and recovery, and security and compliance tasks.

OMS can identify abnormal behavior, such as unexpected reboots or security breaches, from specific accounts. It also collects data from all customers performing patches to provide an average patching time for missing updates. Microsoft designed OMS to work with any cloud service, including Azure, Amazon Web Services and VMware. OMS also allows an administrator to use Azure or an owned enterprise data center as a disaster recovery site.

OMS integrates into existing Microsoft System Center environments and components, such as System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), to extend management into cloud environments. A customer can connect an SCOM management group to Microsoft OMS to collect data from SCOM agents, which continue to communicate with SCOM management servers and forward performance data and events to OMS. Because it is cloud-based, OMS receives new features from Microsoft automatically.

An administrator can create their own OMS dashboards in customize mode, which brings up saved log searches that can be visualized as tiles. Tiles can be visualized as either a bar chart that displays a timeline of a saved log's results, or a metric that displays a log's total search results. An administrator can set a threshold that will highlight the tile when the threshold is reached.

Enterprise users can purchase Microsoft OMS separately or as part of the System Center Standard or Datacenter editions. A mobile app is available for Apple, Android and Windows devices.
