The Boomi Platform

The Boomi Platform, previously known as Boomi AtomSphere, is a low-code and cloud-native integrated Platform as a Service (iPaaS). The goal of the Boomi Platform is to accelerate the flow of information across applications, processes, devices and people. The Boomi Platform allows businesses to simplify and accelerate connectivity, building, managing and reviewing all of their application integrations.

The Boomi Platform supports simple to complex connectivity needs, and provides ROI and speed to business outcomes. It provides a basis for what Dell Boomi sees as needed to run a business process from end-to-end, which includes connectors, transformation rules, decision handling and processing logic.

Any company, including small, medium and enterprise-size companies, which need to utilize an agnostic, cloud-native platform can use the Boomi Platform. It can be used to speed up projects and lower costs through eliminating more expensive software licenses, IT consulting and development contracts, as well as hardware and software maintenance expenses.

The Boomi Platform can also help IT managers track their applications and minimize high IT budgets that are typically spent on managing the IT landscape.

How the Boomi Platform works

The unified platform works by providing a low-code user interface (UI), a drag-and-drop user flow, with re-usable components and also supporting the use of code when needed. Dell Boomi manages the platform, meaning companies do not have to worry about ensuring connectivity protocols are up to date, supporting the various application endpoints or having to add infrastructure to scale up the platform. Boomi will manage these items on the backend.

The Boomi Platform will undergo regular Load testing scenarios that assume customer usage ten times higher than current demand. With this approach, Boomi ensures customers can continue to expand integration requirements and rely on Boomi to deliver the infrastructure to power them.

Boomi Platform use cases

Some examples of the Boomi Platform in use include Sky and Cornell University. The British media company, Sky, uses the Boomi Platform to help its 12 million-plus customers resolve service issues. According to Dell Boomi, this resulted in a large boost to customer satisfaction and savings of £6 million within the first year of use.

Cornell University created a new connected campus experience for over 20,000 students and 10,000 employees by migrating new applications and connecting to legacy systems.

Pros and cons of the Boomi Platform

Advantages of using the Boomi Platform include:

  • Saves on infrastructure costs.
  • Avoids the maintenance and license costs associated with legacy software
  • Supports data accessibility and continuity.
  • Brings together disparate applications and data that would otherwise require extensive developer time to integrate and maintain.
  • Caters to users with varying technical expertise via a low-code interface.
  • Provides low overhead with automatic upgrades.

However, some disadvantages may include:

  • Memory management can be challenging regarding the allocation of memory to certain integration processes.
  • Creates a dependency on internet connection for development.
  • Individuals with lower technical knowledge may only be able to perform simple migrations.
  • More technical knowledge should be had to better leverage the tool.
