Is your SSD storage acumen up to snuff?

Take our quiz to find out if you're up to speed on solid-state technology in areas such as SSD form factors, management strategy, security and innovation.

There are a lot of details to consider when making SSD buying decisions. From the various form factors to how garbage collection works to the latest NVMe innovations, solid-state technology gets complicated fast.

SSDs have been around since the early 1990s, providing better performance than HDDs. But low capacities and high per-gigabyte prices have kept them away from all but the most performance-demanding applications. More recently, SSD storage capacities have ratcheted up, and prices have dropped, making hybrid and all-flash storage architectures viable alternatives for a broader range of workloads.

Today, there are a lot of advantages to using SSDs and all-flash arrays instead of hard drives. They deliver lower latency rates and higher IOPS. They take up less space, use less energy, and are more reliable and durable than hard drives.

The advent of the NVMe host controller interface and storage protocol developed specifically to speed the transfer of data between enterprise and client systems and SSDs has taken SSD performance to a whole new level. NVMe technology has also added to the complexity of SSDs and the confusion around buying decisions.

Are you as knowledgeable about this technology as you should be? To find out if your SSD storage acumen is up to date or needs to be refreshed, take our quiz below.
