Appery.io integrates Ionic 4 support for mobile app development

Exadel's low-code platform, Appery.io, added Ionic 4 support that enables developers to create high-performing web and mobile apps, according to the vendor.

Exadel has upgraded its low-code application development platform, Appery.io, to integrate with Ionic 4. This integration will make Appery.io easier to manage and improve overall performance, according to Exadel.

Appery.io enables citizen developers -- creators that are not experts in software development, such as office administrators, small business owners or business analysts -- to create hybrid mobile apps, web apps and Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) in a low-code environment. However, developers also embrace low code for the productivity benefits, ability to engage others in the development lifecycle and simple visual language to translate complicated code.

Other popular low-code platforms include Mendix, OutSystems, Microsoft PowerApps and FileMaker.

With support for Ionic 4, Appery.io gives developers flexibility in the tools and frameworks they choose to build an Ionic app directly in Appery.io. Ionic 4's framework uses web standards so that developers can work from one code base to build applications.

The Appery.io Ionic 4 framework also supports the Angular version 7 web app framework and Cordova 8 mobile app framework and brings overall performance improvements, modern web platform features, CSS variables and more.

In January, Ionic introduced Ionic 4 -- dubbed Ionic for Everyone -- which brought support for all popular JavaScript frameworks, including Angular, React and Vue. Previously, Ionic only supported Angular, which limited its user base.

Distributed as a set of Web Components using the Custom Elements and shadow Document Object Model APIs available in all modern mobile and desktop browsers, Ionic 4 is nearly a universal framework.

Appery.io's integration with Ionic 4 follows its March update that introduced support for PWAs. PWA support means a web application can open, load and work offline when there's no network connection and resume online functions when a network is restored. Developers can convert apps to PWAs in Appery.io in a few steps, without changing any feature code.
