The concept of hybrid workforces has taken such deep root in all types and sizes of organizations that it’s almost a cliché to talk about hybrid workforces: For more and more organizations, hybrid workforces are a fait accompli. TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group found that 82% of organizations are investing in “the future of work” and adapting to support a hybrid workforce.1
VMware’s customer base is no exception, as more organizations around the world take decisive steps to enable employees to work from any location, at any time, for any reason. With that in mind, VMware has recognized organizations in the Americas, the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ) region, and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) as Hybrid Workforce Innovators in the 2023 VMware Customer Achievement Awards program.
Americas region: Boeing
With a global workforce of 140,000 employees, Boeing encourages, enables and supports workforce collaboration around the world. As hybrid work became an essential part of getting the job done, Boeing needed tools that were more compatible with its new hybrid workforce. And because Boeing is a leading U.S. Department of Defense contractor, it needed to ensure that its hybrid workplace solutions and processes were secure.
To accomplish these and other goals, including collaboration across regions, workgroups and job functions, Boeing partnered with VMware to deploy VMware Workspace ONE for Windows 10 and macOS in addition to its mobile deployment. Workspace ONE is a platform that manages any application on any device by integrating access control, application management and unified endpoint management.
Implemented across the U.S. and in more than 65 countries, Workspace ONE helped Boeing create a framework to facilitate the shift to a software-as-a-service model for more efficiency, economies of scale and flexibility. Workspace ONE provided a single, unified, comprehensive view into all endpoint requirements, allowing Boeing to scale its end-user solutions for a wide range of business requirements without running into the performance and communications bottlenecks organizations often experience with legacy solutions.
APJ Region: NIO Co. Ltd.
NIO, an emerging leader in new energy vehicles, faced the challenge of supporting a wide and growing number of diverse endpoint types, from Windows- and macOS-based computers to store display tablets, Android-based charging stations, handheld devices and traditional office devices. NIO urgently needed a way to manage and protect those devices more effectively and efficiency to ensure resiliency and security.
To achieve that, the company selected VMware Workspace ONE, enabling a modern, work-anywhere model that supports users regardless of the endpoint device being used at any time. The initial deployment was accomplished in less than three months, spanning more than 1,000 different devices in multiple locations.
As a result, NIO reduced IT complexity without compromising its ability to support its users’ diverse endpoint needs and preferences. It also accelerated the onboarding process for new applications in both on-premises and multi-cloud environments. Additionally, NIO expects to replace its legacy virtual desktop infrastructure platform with VMware Horizon, which will reduce costs and enable a more consistent, positive user experience.
EMEA region: La Poste
Workers at French postal service La Poste Groupe use a wide range of applications to carry out their many job functions. But keeping those applications up to date at all times for the organization’s 70,000 employees was a demanding and complex job. Using legacy approaches, it required a time-consuming, manual set of tasks, with every employee having to download each app update.
Instead, La Poste worked with VMware to find a simple, unified, easy-to-deploy solution: VMware Workspace ONE. The VMware solution’s application push function is integrated into the platform, making it easy and fast to download updates across the full user base in real time. Deployment timing was a critical consideration, since La Poste was set to renew 40,000 new smartphones for postal workers.
The implementation has resulted in “total version consistency,” giving La Poste more control and a more consistent user experience even in the face of rapid, continuous application updates. Today, IT and service desk teams have full visibility into issues affecting workforce productivity, with simplified troubleshooting and automated remediation.
