AWS and other public cloud providers have sophisticated, global networks that offer redundancy and high-speed connectivity across a range of availability zones (AZs) and regions. An enterprise can use these extensive global networks to build a distributed application architecture and reach a worldwide audience.

AWS multiregion architectures benefit enterprises in several crucial ways. First, they are almost always active-active configurations and operate simultaneously in two or more regions. This distributed approach can boost business continuity with resiliency and high availability for critical workloads and also spread risk between geographically isolated regions.

Second, AWS multiregion architectures can bolster application performance and enhance the user experience (UX). They bring users closer to the application to overcome latency and other potential disruptions that occur when users access an application from great distances.

Third, each region can retain its own unique data set. This can complicate data replication and integration, but the isolation enables businesses to observe data retention and protection practices. This is a major asset for regulatory obligations and data compliance laws in a given region.

But a distributed application architecture doesn't come easy, as IT teams need to plan carefully and weigh numerous complex issues. Address these important points to get started.
