Test your Storage Spaces Direct hyper-converged system smarts

Windows Server 2016 took Microsoft into the HCI game, with hyper-convergence features based on Storage Spaces Direct, the upgrade from Windows Server 2012's Storage Spaces feature.

When Microsoft released Windows Server 2016, it upgraded Storage Spaces, resulting in Storage Spaces Direct hyper-converged infrastructure features that brought the server software giant into the HCI market.

Because Microsoft doesn't sell HCI appliances, using Storage Spaces Direct and its new features to implement an HCI system is more like a DIY project for an organization already running a Windows Server-based data center. That means there are plenty of options and features to choose to implement or not, depending on what you are asking your HCI system to do.

Some options are more suited to a converged infrastructure than HCI, and Windows Server 2016 can do that as well. And while Microsoft is working with partners to make sure their hardware is compatible with Storage Spaces Direct and its features, the HCI software is still all Microsoft's -- specifically, Windows Server 2016.

To prepare for a planned Storage Spaces Direct hyper-converged infrastructure deployment, take our quiz, and test your knowledge.
