Risk & Repeat: Twitter, Elon Musk and security concerns

Listen to this podcast

This podcast episode discusses Twitter's security concerns following Elon Musk's acquisition last month, as well as a possible data breach from 2021 that came to light recently.

It's been a tumultuous year for Twitter from a cybersecurity perspective.

The social media giant may be victim to a second data breach this year following one confirmed by the company this August. This second possible breach, reported last week by security researcher Chad Loder, involves a 2021 data set with potentially tens of millions of private phone numbers from users in the U.S. and Europe.

Twitter has not confirmed the breach, but if true, the two breaches would follow a bevy of security challenges faced by the company this year. Twitter saw the departure of CISO Lea Kissner this month shortly after the newly acquired company announced mass layoffs. Additionally, the whistleblower report from Twitter's former head of security, Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, claimed a number of major security concerns at the company.

In this episode of the Risk & Repeat podcast, TechTarget editors Rob Wright and Alex Culafi discuss the intersection of Twitter and cybersecurity in 2022, as well as the impact its recent turmoil could have on security outcomes.
