E-Handbook: Use cloud HCI as a stepping stone to hybrid cloud deployment Article 1 of 4

Hyper-convergence eases hybrid cloud deployment

Organizations are turning to hyper-converged infrastructure for a number of use cases. One is the cloud, in the form of cloud HCI.

Cloud HCI is becoming a prevalent choice among IT managers because cloud computing and hyper-convergence have a lot in common. For example, virtualization is at the heart of each technology, and both take an add-it-as-you-need-it modular approach to increasing computing resources. These reasons, combined with the Capex and Opex advantages inherent to hyper-convergence, help make hyper-converged infrastructure a natural fit and stepping stone for deploying hybrid clouds.

Hyper-converged infrastructure simplifies the provisioning, implementation and management of data center hardware by combining compute, storage, network and visualization resources into an integrated system called a node. Users can then link multiple nodes together in a cluster, which makes scaling your infrastructure out as additional resources are needed easier than with traditional data center architectures.

In addition to providing a more modern and simpatico cloud-like infrastructure with which to build a hybrid cloud, cloud HCI enables organizations to use fewer IT resources when doing so -- freeing those up for other purposes. Enterprises can also more easily incorporate cloud technologies into their existing IT infrastructure in stages, instead of all at once or, as could end up being the case, not at all.

Get up to speed on the benefits of cloud HCI and learn best practices about taking a hyper-converged approach to the cloud.
