Kanarys launches new diversity and inclusion platform

Kanarys uses company demographics, anonymous employee reviews and industry rankings in an effort to improve diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

Kanarys, a new technology platform designed to facilitate a joint effort between companies and employees on diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace, is now available.

Kanarys uses cultural and demographic data it gathers and analyzes to provide actionable insights for companies. It also uses industry rankings and trends, as well as anonymous employee reviews, to give companies benchmarks and opportunities for improvement and growth.

Users can leave and read company reviews and take and assess workplace surveys to determine the workplace culture of a company. This includes a section where employees can rate categories such as diversity across the organization, diversity in leadership, work-life balance and overall inclusiveness.

The goal of providing anonymity to the people who leave reviews is to enable employees to address concerns without the fear of retaliation.

Kanarys also displays the latest news related directly to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Users can look up individual companies to see their overall rating and the average breakdown in the various diversity, equity and inclusion categories. The dashboard also includes basic facts about the company, such as industry, number of employees, the year it was founded, where it is headquartered and whether the company is private or public.

At the top of the dashboard, users can choose other sections to look at, such as demographics, benefits and policies, workplace surveys and employee reviews.

Using technology to improve diversity in the workplace has been on the rise in recent years. LinkedIn's 2018 Global Recruiting Trends reported that 78% of companies are prioritizing diversity to improve culture, and 42% are working to recognize and correct interviewer bias. Technology can help gather data by doing things like using AI to flag biased language in job descriptions or employee reviews.

Other diversity and inclusion platforms have launched, as well. In 2016, Door of Clubs launched the Diverse Talent Identification Platform to enable users to find and connect with people of different underrepresented groups, such as women, African Americans or members of the LGBTQ community.
