IBM Spectrum

IBM Spectrum is the brand the vendor gave to its storage software in 2015, when it moved six products under the Spectrum umbrella.

The six products IBM Spectrum products include Accelerate, Scale, Virtualize, Control, Protect and Archive.

IBM Spectrum Accelerate is block storage based on IBM's XIV storage technology. It can scale up to tens of petabytes of capacity and be deployed on commodity servers, XIV or in the cloud. It is available for purchase as software or as cloud service with IBM SoftLayer.

IBM Spectrum Scale acts as a control pane to manage policy-based data movement. It is based on IBM's General Parallel File System technology. It is available for purchase as stand-alone software, bundled on IBM hardware as the IBM Elastic Storage Server or as a cloud service.

IBM Spectrum Virtualize is storage virtualization software formerly known as IBM SAN Volume Controller. It allows storage capacity from multiple storage systems to be pooled so features such as compression and auto tiering can be spread across all storage capacity, and for management from a single location.

IBM Spectrum Control is management software that runs in IBM's cloud for virtualized, cloud and software-defined storage. It provides users with performance monitoring and capacity planning for on-premises storage.

IBM Spectrum Protect is a backup and recovery product based formerly known as IBM Tivoli Storage Manager. It can be used with physical, virtual or cloud storage.  It provides snapshots, multi-site replication and disaster recovery management.

IBM Spectrum Archive software was formerly known as Linear Tape File System and allows access to IBM tape drives using a 1:1 mapping of file folders to tape drives. It eliminates the need for separate management software for archival storage and facilities movement of data between production and archival capacity.
