microserver
A microserver (micro-server) is a small form-factor system-on-a-chip (SoC) server.
Microservers are less expensive and have less processing power than traditional enterprise-class rack servers. They can easily be grouped into clusters and are well-suited for tasks that do not require require multiple CPUs. They are often used by small-to medium-sized businesses that operate with minimal IT staff but they can also be useful in data centers for small or temporary jobs.
Because microservers are often used as network appliances, they are sometimes referred to as appliance servers. Several major vendors produce microservers, including HP, Dell and Hitachi.
