SAP Sapphire Now 2014 product round-up, Day 1
HP, SGI, Delphix and Hitachi all made announcements early this week at SAP Sapphire Now 2014.
ORLANDO - Hewlett-Packard Co. has announced a new system designed to run SAP HANA that includes up to 12 TB of in-memory computing, though the product won't actually be available until this fall.
The Intel Xeon-based system, called HP ConvergedSystem 900, is an upgrade from the company's 500 model, and will be the largest platform for HANA that is certified by SAP, according to the two vendors.
The 12 TB of available in-memory computing in the 900 is a six-fold increase over the maximum capability in HP's ConvergedSystem 500, and is part of a joint initiative between SAP and HP that the vendors dubbed "Project Kraken," Introducing it early 2013. They demonstrated a 12 TB test system at last year’s SapphireNow conference.
HP did not disclose pricing.
SGI previews in-memory appliance for SAP HANA
High-performance computing company SGI has previewed a single-node appliance built for SAP HANA that scales up to 24 TB of in-memory computing.
SGI did not announce a release date for the appliance, the first iteration of which will be an 8-socket Intel Xeon-based system with 6 TB of shared memory. The system will eventually have the capability to scale to 32 sockets and 24 TB of shared memory on a single node.
SGI did not say how much its system would cost.
Delphix to support SAP ASE virtualization
Database virtualization software company Delphix has announced that its flagship data management software will now support database virtualization of SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE).
The company said the support is scheduled to be generally available in late summer, with the product currently in beta testing with SAP and Delphix customers. Delphix claims that its Agile Data Platform can help cut database infrastructure costs associated with application development. It did not release pricing on the upcoming product.
Hitachi to run SAP Business Suite on partitioned servers
SAP Business Suite has been verified to run on logical partitioning on Hitachi Data Systems x86 servers, according to the server vendor.
The partitioning allows for consolidation of Business Suite instances, allowing companies to reduce the number of servers it needs to run the SAP software.
Hitachi also announced three new platforms for SAP HANA: an Intel Xeon-based blade hardware system, as well as storage and virtual storage platforms.
