VMXNET Generation 3 (VMXNET3)

VMXNET3 (VMXNET Generation 3) is a virtual network adapter designed to deliver high performance in virtual machines (VMs) running on the VMware vSphere platform.

VMXNET3 has the same features as the VMXNET2 adapter but with added functionality to minimize I/O virtualization overhead. To enable VMXNET3, VMs need to be on virtual hardware version 7 or later and may need VMware Tools installed, depending on which guest operating system (guest OS) is being used.
