Microsoft Hyper-V Manager
Microsoft Hyper-V Manager is an administrative tool to create, change and delete virtual machines (VMs). An administrator can manage a local Hyper-V host and a limited number of remote hosts from a single Hyper-V Manager tool. Hyper-V Manager can also be used to install a guest operating system (OS), and install or upgrade services that improve integration between a physical computer and the VM. Integration services also allow an administrator to back up VMs by enabling the volume checkpoint or volume snapshot option.
Microsoft Hyper-V Manager first became available in Windows Server 2008 and is available as a Hyper-V Management Tool on any Windows OS with Hyper-V. Hyper-V Manager is also available in Windows 7 as a role administration tool and is included with Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT). RSAT is not enabled by default and must be turned on manually.
If Hyper-V Manager is installed on a client computer, a user can use it to manage the VM running on the host server. Hyper-V Manager functionality matches the functionality available in the version being managed.
In Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016, users can provide alternate credentials when connecting to a remote computer from Hyper-V Manager and can connect to a remote computer using the IP address. Hyper-V Manager in Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 also allows administrators to manage computers running Hyper-V on Windows Server 8 and 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2.
