big box store
A big box store is a very large Brick and mortar retail location which sells a variety of merchandise, usually at a low price. Big box stores are also sometimes referred to as superstores or supercenters.
Big box stores are often arranged into departments, due to a large amount of merchandise sold there. However, unlike standard department stores, many big box stores focus on one category of merchandise, such as children’s toys, office supplies or outdoor equipment. Many big box stores are part of a retail chain.
The rise in popularity of e-commerce websites has led many big box retailers to begin selling online as well to keep up with the competition. While brick and mortar retail locations have seen a decline, big box stores remain popular with consumers.
Some well-known big box stores in the United States include Walmart, Meijer, Target, Staples and Home Depot.
