The AWS SDK for PHP is an open source library designed to help developers build applications that are based on the PHP server-side scripting language within Amazon Web Services (AWS). Such AWS software development kits (SDKs) supply tools for a developer working with a specific programming language.

The AWS SDK for PHP provides application programming interfaces (APIs) for dozens of AWS tools and services. A developer can use these APIs to interact with storage services, such as Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Glacier, as well as development tools, such as AWS Elastic Beanstalk and AWS OpsWorks.

The AWS SDK for PHP includes service-specific features, such as the Amazon S3 Stream Wrapper, which allows a developer to use native PHP functions to interact with S3 buckets. Another feature is the Amazon DynamoDB Session Handler, which scales sessions for the NoSQL database. The SDK also includes easy result pagination to it easier to read and manage code.

Developers can install the SDK through PHP Composer, which is a dependency manager for PHP, or download its .zip or .phar files.

AWS makes the SDK code open source in the GitHub repository, allowing a developer to share new projects and tips using the library. AWS also provides resources for working with the SDK, including a user guide, migration guide, API reference, developer center and community forum.
