Gmail Smart Compose

Gmail Smart Compose is a predictive text feature to help save effort in composing email messages for Gmail users.

Smart compose offers a faster way to compose messages, while avoiding typos and errors in grammar. As a user types their message with Smart Compose enabled, suggestions are offered for the rest of the word or phrase. The user either implements the suggestions or keeps on typing as they desire. Smart Reply was part of a new Gmail update that also offered two-factor authentication, phishing protection, a confidential mode and expiration dates for emails.

Smart Compose was released as a trial feature following Gmail's previously introduced Smart Reply feature. Smart Reply is used to create a quick and simple reply to emails. With Smart Reply, a user clicks on one of a number of suggested responses to start a message reply. In contrast, Smart Compose gives the user suggestions during the writing process.

Features like Smart Reply and Smart Compose offer speed and convenience in exchange for the data users share with Google. As for privacy, Google claims that machine learning models never expose a users private information.
