hibernation
Hibernation is a mode in which a computer is turned off but saves its state to resume when it is turned on again. In effect, hibernation is similar to sleep mode: all the user's open files, websites and data will reappear when the computer is turned on. However, in sleep mode, the power is cut to the minimum to maintain machine state in RAM (random access memory). In hibernation, the power is turned off completely and machine state is stored on the computer's hard drive.
