Google Chromium
Google Chromium is an open source project that was initiated to make source code for the Chrome OS and the Chrome browser available to developers. According to Google, the Chromium browser project seeks to improve the browser's speed, stability and security, while the operating system project seeks to optimize the experience for users who spend most of their computing time on the web.
The operating system that OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) install on consumer products is Chrome OS. Chromium OS, on the other hand, is an open source, Linux-based version of Chrome. The Chromium operating system is not offered commercially but developers can download code and make their own Chromium builds available for use by others. The code provided through the project website always includes the most recent Chrome features and updates. Developers can also add features to their own Chromium builds.
Like Chromium OS, the Chromium browser is offered to developers as a means of furthering development of its Chrome counterpart. The browser has a stripped-down user interface and includes development tools and an integrated task manager.
The Chromium project website provides a learning channel and discussion forum for developers who want to contribute to the projects and offers downloads, documentation and code. A Chromium blog provides news and development updates.
