L3 Harris Technologies

L3 Harris Technologies is a military technology contractor. The company is the result of a merger in 2018 between L3 and Harris Technology. L3, which specializes in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) systems for military and commercial aviation customers, provides communication electronics such as sensor systems, satellite communication systems and computer processors for jets. Harris Technologies makes communications systems for both military and civilian use as well. Its products support battlefield communications, air traffic management and weather monitoring. 

The merger of the two companie, which was announced on October 14, 2018, is expected to make L2 Harris Technologies the seventh largest defense contractorThe company headquarters is set to be in Melbourne, Florida and six directors from each company will serve in the new company's 12-person board. The two companies have a similar corporate culture and the new resulting company is worth a joint value of 33.6 billion dollars. Analyst Carter Copeland compared the potential of the merger to the 1990’s merger of Lockheed and Martin Marietta, which formed the 96 billion dollar Lockheed Martin. Other competitors include General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrup Grumman.
