uberAir
uberAIR is an app-hailed air vehicle ride service currently in the planning stages at Uber.
uberAIR is envisioned as a zero-emission electric air vehicle service. Passengers would be conducted from assigned uberAIR rooftops by vertical take-off, up to 600 meters above ground traffic at speeds around 240 kilometers per hour (almost 150 miles per hour).
The aircraft intended for the air-based lift service is a four-passenger electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) craft. These drone-like vehicles use four wing-mounted vertical propellers for horizontal take-off, landing and generating lift. A single horizontal propeller affixed in front of a tail fin provides the forward thrust. Early eVTOL lifts will be driven by human pilots but Uber’s long term goal is to offer the service with autonomous driving eVTOLs.
Initially, Uber plans to offer the service in three cities. The first two are Dallas and Los Angeles; Uber plans to choose a third international city as the final location. The service is expected to graduate from concept to reality in 2023.
